Hey presto! You’ve made your own wonderful collage monster. Now slot the card into the pocket so it shows through the monster-shaped window. Tear and paste the papers, along with any scraps of old newspapers and magazines, to make a collage on the piece of card. Youll need two or more layers of paper mache completely covering each balloon. Place the strip flat on the balloon without wrinkling too much. Use two fingers to wipe off the excess paste. Now go to the back of the book and take a piece of card and a few pieces of decorated paper. Paper Mache the Balloons Dip one strip at a time into the paste mixture getting both sides coated in paste.
Open up a spread: on the right-hand page is an inspirational collage illustration of a monster on the facing page, a paper pocket with a window cut to the same monster shape. At the back is an envelope with pieces of card and decorated papers to make the pictures.

It is great right now for Red Ted (aged 3), as he is starting to appreciate the subtlies of a difference of opinion. ONLY of course do this bedtime ritual if you have child that is already scared, don’t do it with perfectly happy ones, as that may just start an anxiety!! And at bedtime, but them by the bed to keep away any of those scary nighttime monsters – no more hiding under the duvet covers when you have these little guys by your side! Or place them on the windowsill facing outside and image them saying “BOOOO” to any other intruders.
Today, we make fab little Monsters… I think this craft is great for little boys, but can also be a great way to help any young child that may have “issues” with Monsters at the moment.
